Which is the greatest thing that a person can do to an infertile couple? There are quite a lot of things that one can do but giving them a child will be more fulfilling. Egg donation is the use of the egg given by the donor (fertile woman) to assist the recipient (infertile women/couple). Egg donation is regulated by the ICMR guidelines which allows for only anonymous donors. In India, known egg and sperm donors are not allowed. The IVF process in India involves combining the donated oocytes and sperms and the resulting embryo is transferred to the recipient. Extra good embryos may be frozen for later use.
Who are the recipients?
Donated eggs are meant to be used for:
Patients with early ovarian failure
Patients with poor egg quality
Those with a history of failed IVF therapies
Patients with genetically transmittable abnormalities
Who are the donors?
For a person to qualify as a donor, she:
Must be a fertile Indian woman
Must be young in the age bracket of 21 to 35 years
Must be healthy
Must be medically examined for infectious diseases
Steps involved in egg donation
Sessions are conducted with the donor and the recipients separately to ensure that they understand all the steps involved in the process, and for examination, and ensuring that they are undertaking the procedures with their consents. The menstrual cycles for both parties involved are then synchronized.
For the donor, (Donors are checked for communicable diseases, blood group and race matched)
The baseline ultrasound scan is conducted
The donor is then injected with the Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
A stimulation scan is then done
Injections are triggered and egg collection begins 10-12 days after the FSH injection depending on the response.
For the recipient,
A baseline ultrasound scan is also conducted
Estrogen medication is then started as prescribed by the doctor
An ultrasound scan is then conducted to check the endometrial uterus lining
The donors egg and the recipient partner’s sperms are fertilized the same day they are collected and the recipient start progesterone
The embryo is then transferred 2-5 days after egg collection. The extra embryos are then frozen for later use.
14 days after the transfer, the pregnancy test is performed.
Once the eggs of donors are matured they are aspirated, fertilized by sperms of male partner of recipient. The Embryos hence formed are transferred in recipient.
These steps are synchronized for the recipient and the donor. Test tube baby cost in India is relatively high but if you want to get the best service in the best fertility clinic in India, make sure to visit The Touch Clinic.
